Who are we?
We offer a friendly and inviting atmosphere to new and experienced fencers at the University of Manchester. We provide fencers of all abilities with opportunities to develop their skills and aim to create an environment that enables our members to improve week by week. We are a three weapon club.
Our highly qualified and experienced coaches Andrew Vincent, Jacqui Redikin and John Worsley provide excellent training and general fencing know-how. We train twice a week. Tuesdays are reserved for beginners and team and Thursdays are open to anyone with previous fencing experience. We train at the Sugden Sports Centre from 8.30pm-10.30pm.

We run a free taster session in the first week of the academic year where you can get a quick intro into the sport (see Upcoming Events).
We have a beginner’s course that runs throughout the semester. This course is often oversubscribed in the first semester, as we only have enough kit for 30 spaces. But if you do not make it into the first course in September don’t worry, we always have a second course after the January exams. After completing the Beginners Course you will automatically be accepted to the Intermediate Course.
If you want to find out more then come and see us at the Fresher’s Fair/Sports Fair (see Upcoming Events).
If you are an intermediate or advanced fencer, you can always show up for training on a Thursday. For the exact dates have a look at the Upcoming Events page. Our training takes place every Thursday from 8:30 – 10:30 pm at the Sugden Centre.
We accept everyone into the Intermediate Course with fencing experience. If you have never fenced before please consider trying out our Beginners Course. If you want to find out more or ask us some questions then come and see us at the Fresher’s Fair or drop us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
As a University of Manchester student you also have the opportunity to join our Fencing Team! We compete on Wednesdays throughout the semester against other Fencing Clubs in the BUCS Leagues. If you want to follow our competition results, have a look at our Men’s and Women’s Teams fixtures.
In February we send our fencers to the BUCS Individual Championships in Sheffield and the Christie Cup is always a big event in April!
